The Saskatoon Stunners Slo-Pitch Team has had nothing but success in the 2000/01 season.
Unity - The Stunners started off the season with a Bang by capturing first place and $1000 in late May. The final proved to be a hard-fought battle against The Pat Hotel. This was the first time in many years that home-town team has taken the gold.
Saskatoon National Qualifier - The Stunners kept the winning spirit alive all the way to the final, but came up one run short against The Crunch. The Stunners would eventually get revenge and beat The Crunch out of 'C' Provincials in August.
Atton's Lake - Three words..... July long weekend. For the second year in a row, The Stunners did not play more than five innings in each game on their way to easily capturing first place and $550. In a tournament packed with local teams each year, The Stunners (AKA The Killer Bees) dominated their opponents and showed who is boss.
Western Canadian Qualifier, Whitecap Reserve - After a month off, The Stunners squad played in Labatt's Provincials held at Whitecap Reserve. Much the same as Atton's Lake, the Stunners walked away with gold which qualified them for the 2002 Western Canadians in Leduc, AB.
Men's 'E' Provincials, Saskatoon - As the Slo-Pitch season wound down, various male Stunners combined with members from the Sardinias to play in Men's 'E' Provincials. The Stunners easily captured the gold, qualifying them for Nationals in Calgary, AB.
Co-Ed 'C' Provincials, Saskatoon - Lastly, The Stunners Team entered Co-Ed 'C' Provincials in Saskatoon, SK. It was a long battle, and after six tough games, The Stunners took their undefeated record into the final against a team from Prince Albert. Despite a walk-a-thon by Jill Apshkrum (which raised money for Multiple Sclorosis), the veteran leaders showed their true grit and carried The Stunners to an extra innings victory to claim their first-ever Provincial Co-Ed title. |
